Premium moisture-resistant MDF (HMR) is an engineered wood panel manufactured with a moisture-resistant resin binder for improved performance in kitchen, bathroom, and high-humidity interior applications, available at Windsor Plywood. The HMR core swells significantly less than standard MDF when exposed to humidity, making it appropriate for painted kitchen and bathroom cabinetry and trim.
| Typical Sheet Size | 4' x 8' |
|---|---|
| Common Thicknesses | 1/4", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" |

| Application | Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, interior doors, painted trim |
HMR MDF is used for painted kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts, bathroom vanity components, painted interior doors, and trim in kitchens and bathrooms where standard MDF would be at risk from humidity.
What is the difference between standard MDF and HMR MDF?
Standard MDF uses urea-formaldehyde resin binders and swells significantly when exposed to moisture. HMR MDF uses moisture-resistant resin binders that dramatically reduce swelling. HMR MDF is often green in colour as a visual indicator and is recommended for kitchens and bathrooms.
Is HMR MDF fully waterproof?
No. HMR MDF is moisture-resistant, not waterproof. It resists humidity and minor moisture exposure significantly better than standard MDF but will still swell if submerged or exposed to sustained direct water contact.
